Oh For A Thousand Tongues To Sing

Charles Wesley wrote this hymn to commemorate the first anniversary of his conversion to Christ. This origin is reflected in the lyrics, “On this glad day the glorious Sun of Righteousness arose.” The stanza that begins “O for a thousand tongues to sing” is verse seven of Wesley’s original poem. This work first appeared in Hymns and Sacred Poems in 1740.

O for a thousand tongues to sing
My great Redeemer’s praise,
The glories of my God and King,
The triumphs of His grace!

My gracious Master and my God,
Assist me to proclaim,
To spread through all the earth abroad
The honors of Thy name.

Jesus! the name that charms our fears,
That bids our sorrows cease;
’Tis music in the sinner’s ears,
’Tis life, and health, and peace.

He breaks the power of canceled sin,
He sets the prisoner free;
His blood can make the foulest clean,
His blood availed for me.

He speaks, and, listening to His voice,
New life the dead receive,
The mournful, broken hearts rejoice,
The humble poor believe.

Hear Him, ye deaf; His praise, ye dumb,
Your loosened tongues employ;
Ye blind, behold your Savior come,
And leap, ye lame, for joy.

In Christ your Head, you then shall know,
Shall feel your sins forgiven;
Anticipate your heaven below,
And own that love is heaven.

Glory to God, and praise and love
Be ever, ever given,
By saints below and saints above,
The church in earth and heaven.

On this glad day the glorious Sun
Of Righteousness arose;
On my benighted soul He shone
And filled it with repose.

Sudden expired the legal strife,
’Twas then I ceased to grieve;
My second, real, living life
I then began to live.

Then with my heart I first believed,
Believed with faith divine,
Power with the Holy Ghost received
To call the Savior mine.

I felt my Lord’s atoning blood
Close to my soul applied;
Me, me He loved, the Son of God,
For me, for me He died!

I found and owned His promise true,
Ascertained of my part,
My pardon passed in heaven I knew
When written on my heart.

Look unto Him, ye nations, own
Your God, ye fallen race;
Look, and be saved through faith alone,
Be justified by grace.

See all your sins on Jesus laid:
The Lamb of God was slain,
His soul was once an offering made
For every soul of man.

Awake from guilty nature’s sleep,
And Christ shall give you light,
Cast all your sins into the deep,
And wash the Æthiop white.

Harlots and publicans and thieves
In holy triumph join!
Saved is the sinner that believes
From crimes as great as mine.

Murderers and all ye hellish crew
In holy triumph join!
Believe the Savior died for you;
For me the Savior died.

With me, your chief, ye then shall know,
Shall feel your sins forgiven;
Anticipate your heaven below,
And own that love is heaven.

To Be Like Jesus

Lyrics:-

To be like Jesus, to be like Jesus
All I ask is to be like Him;
All through life’s journey
From earth to glory
All I ask is to be like Him;

To be like Jesus, to be like Jesus
All I ask is to be like Him;
Not in a measure but in its fullness
All I ask is to be like Him.

Sorry I Got Caught | Mark P. Spinks

It was the green marble that spoke to me. It was not only a beautiful crystal and gleamed like a green jewel; it was really a big marble. Green was my favorite color.

I knew that Mother wouldn’t buy it for me. I had already done as much whining and begging as I could reasonably hope to get away with on this trip to town. I didn’t have the price of the marble. We were in a little hobby shop that Mother didn’t visit very often, and this was the only time I had ever seen a marble like this.

When I See the Blood | John G. Foote

  1. Christ our Redeemer died on the cross,
    Died for the sinner, paid all his due;
    All who receive Him need never fear,
    Yes, He will pass, will pass over you.
    • Refrain:
      When I see the blood, when I see the blood,
      When I see the blood, I will pass, I will pass over you.
  2. Chiefest of sinners, Jesus will save;
    As He has promised, so He will do;
    Oh, sinner, hear Him, trust in His Word,
    Then He will pass, will pass over you.
  3. Judgment is coming, all will be there.
    Who have rejected, who have refused?
    Oh, sinner, hasten, let Jesus in,
    Oh, He will pass, will pass over you.
  4. O great compassion! O boundless love!
    Jesus hath power, Jesus is true;
    All who believe are safe from the storm,
    Oh, He will pass, will pass over you.

Burning the Quran? Truth vs Islam

by: Josh Helm | September 9, 2010

Although I don't necessarily stand behind anyones actions of burning the Quran, I think it should speak volumes to us about the differences between Islam and what it means to follow Christ and be a "Christian". The fact is people burn the Holy Bible everyday. They actually have a day called blasphemy day! Just the idea of this burning has cause such violent threats. What does that speak of the Quran? That those that highly esteem that book would cause terrorism, destruction, violent acts, even war possibly. It may not be speaking volumes to you but there are those in the world that will feel the effects of this muslim doctrine. Barak Obama said this morning "Look, this is a recruitment bonanza for al-Qaida," the president said. "You could have serious violence in places like Pakistan and Afghanistan." He also implored a Florida minister to call off his Quran-burning "stunt," saying it would jeopardize U.S. troops abroad. His comments came as the administration discussed whether to reach out to the pastor in a bid to get him to drop the idea. Why don't we recognize the implications of this and see that it is Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people. Proverbs 14:34. Tolerating deception is not what made this country great, it was a pursuit of that which is Holy that America was founded upon. This whole thing event whatever you want to call it should show provoke the TRUTH to come out...

On a rather important note: I received an email this morning from a Pastor in Pakistan asking for prayer because this Quran burning event is reaching international attention which means turning up the heat for the persecution of Christians in predominant Islamic countries as well as Pakistan. They are already sensing a very hostile atmosphere. They expect beatings, and the burning of Christian churches. In those countries it actually cost you something to be a "Christian" keep the Christians in those areas in prayer... Believing for a supernatural strength and grace to be upon those.
